easy access tailored reporting

Available via rascal insight, robust reporting breaks down the data by store and supplier – retailers can see exactly where losses are happening, allowing them to ensure shrink and losses are properly recorded and monitored.

Traditionally, where information was often unreliable, rascal now provides reports containing the data required to identify where losses are occurring and where corrective action is required.

Using rascal insight, it is now possible to evaluate the performance of individual stores and suppliers, enabling effective and targeted action against any losses.

evaluation of shrink / waste

Retailers have always found it very difficult to report accurately on the level of shrink (unidentified losses) on the category. Now rascal can help retailers quantify where losses are occurring far more accurately.

For a number of retail partners rascal provides a feed of outstanding credit that can be incorporated in to retailers’ own system to help build a more accurate picture of shrink.

quick and easy scanning stocktake system

Without rascal, stores have to do manual stock takes, leaving them with multiple people doing the job at once, and then the often inaccurate job of adding all the values up so that a final figure can be worked out.

With rascal, staff just scan titles and enter the quantities using the intuitive PDA - making the job quicker, easier and more accurate. The PDA will keep a running total of what has been scanned throughout the process.

Upon completion, the store is given a total figure of all the stock scanned and the data from the PDA is then automatically transferred to rascal. Line-level information can then be provided to the store via a rascal insight report or a direct feed of all the information can be supplied to the retail head office to be incorporated into the total stocktake process.

This better, more accurate information is provided faster and by fewer people, allowing staff to work on more productive areas.

When a store returns a poor stock take result there will often be a link to poor compliance in either the store or supplier processes. With the visibility of rascal’s compliance reports, the areas of greatest risk or loss can be quickly addressed.

visibility of waste (and outstanding credit)

Before rascal, it was almost impossible to control waste - it was up to an individual in store to check the paperwork from suppliers and compare with their own manual records of what stores had claimed / returned.

The rascal system automatically checks the paperwork on behalf of the store and thereby tightens the process up by highlighting immediately where losses are being made - for example, if a store has returned a title but not received credit.

rascal insight is able to provide reports to whatever level of detail is required so that both head office and stores have complete visibility of outstanding credit

By using rascal, losses are significantly reduced through the use of an intuitive PDA which any staff member can be trained to use in just two days.

granular detail by store and by issue of outstanding credit

rascal insight reports give line-by-line, store-by-store levels of outstanding credit. Trends can be identified and action plans produced to reduce losses.

Information can be used to challenge suppliers and stores. The reports will show, for example, which stores haven't booked in essential deliveries or dealt with their returns, or how many copies of which titles are going into which stores, and the level of subsequent claims.

Meanwhile, the reports highlight the stores acting on best practice. Lessons learned here can be transmitted to all other stores which will help to significantly reduce losses.

accurate stock inventory by store, by line

The rascal PDA allows staff quickly and accurately to record stock within stores.

Easy-to-learn, the PDA allows staff at every store to ensure an accurate stock take is made, as opposed to a manual input of data which is traditionally prone to human error.

The information is then automatically and instantly fed into rascal insight- giving the retailer, the most reliable information on stock possible.

visibility of store process compliance

Ensuring stores comply with the basic yet essential tasks required of them - whether that is weekly stockchecks or scanning titles as they arrive - is vital to maximise the amount of credit for which stores can claim.

Shrink and waste is caused by either stores or suppliers not following process and the rascal compliance reports give total visibility of store compliance issues so that remedial action plans can be put in place if required, thereby driving down losses on the category.

Without rascal, there is no reliable visibility of what is coming in and out of stores. Are all stores checking what is really being supplied by wholesalers?

rascal's compliance reports lessen the risk of missing out on outstanding credit and incurring unnecessary losses. Stores with poorer compliance can thus be helped through better training of staff.

highlights supplier’s length of time to pass credit

rascal insight allows retailers to highlight how long suppliers are taking to process credits for unsold copies returned by stores and where credit is outstanding by supplier depot and by individual store.

The longer it takes for wholesalers to return credit, the greater the chance of that credit not being redeemed - so rascal reports are an essential tool in not only increasing cash flow but also outstanding credit.

pin-points supplier performance of sending non-ranged product

rascal is effective at highlighting non-ranged titles as soon as they arrive at store.

The delivery scan data can then be translated into a ranking of suppliers - highlighting poorer performing suppliers who deliver the most non-ranged product on a regular basis.

If non-ranged product is allowed to find its way on to store fixtures there is a risk of ‘overcrowding on the shelves’ which can lead to a decline in the shopper’s experience but also losses as titles due for recall can be missed by the store.

rascal comes in as the first line of defence - removing the requirement to worry about dealing with returns further down the line.

competitor benchmarking

Without rascal, a retailer has no way of really knowing how well it compares to its competitors - for example in terms of waste, shrink or returns.

All of the scan data collated from across retailers using rascal can then be translated into competitor benchmarking tables to highlight where improvements can be made across a range of metrics.

The benchmarking is anonymous; the comparison retailers are not named. A league table demonstrates performance alongside key competitors.

The advantage is clear: with these insights retailers can highlight areas of poor performance and kick start an action plan to fix the issues they are facing.

improve profitability

Through the controls and visibility that rascal provides, the retailer now has the chance to reduce losses in a way not available before.

The data available via rascal insight means that losses often put down to shrink can be more accurately identified and labelled as outstanding credit. This gives the retailer a simple platform to challenge the supplier to return more credit if justified.

Additionally, using the compliance data available via rascal insight, the retailer can target and improve the areas of store process that are contributing to shrink, thereby improving their profitability on that category.

improved cash flow

Simply put, reducing losses improves cash flow - essential for businesses of any size.

rascal will automatically make claims for outstanding credit on the retailer’s behalf, which will encourage suppliers to improve their processes and ensure they are processing credits as quickly as possible to prevent claims from rascal.

rascal is able to provide reports that rank supplier depots’ speed of passing credit so that retail head office can have discussions with suppliers that have depots taking longer to process credits.

By making small improvements to the store processes at an individual store level, a retailer can redeem significant amounts of credit on a national scale.

reduced shrink

Retailers have always found it very difficult to report accurately on the level of shrink (unidentified losses) on the category - now, with the help of rascal, it is possible to quantify where losses are occurring far more accurately.

For a number of retail partners rascal provides a feed of outstanding credit that can be incorporated into the retailer’s own system to help build a more accurate picture of shrink.

Shrink is caused by a mixture of stores and suppliers not following the correct processes. rascal is a proven solution to dramatically reduce shrink by providing visibility as to where the processes are not followed and the controls to ensure those processes are adhered to on-going.

drives process compliance

There is a clear correlation between low store compliance and high shrink, and vice versa. Therefore, the better the compliance, the better stores perform.

rascal’s compliance reports give the required controls to head offices so that they know stores are following the correct processes and thereby lessen the risk of missing out on outstanding credit and incurring unnecessary losses. Stores with poorer compliance can thus be helped through better training of staff.

improved accuracy in stock take

The rascal PDA allows staff to quickly and accurately record stock within stores - this improved accuracy has already shown to provide huge benefits for rascal's retail partners.

Easy-to-learn, the PDA allows staff at every store to ensure an accurate stock take is made, as opposed to a manual input of data which is traditionally prone to human error.

The reliability of rascal has meant one of rascal's key national retailer partners have now decided to switch their entire stock taking operation to rascal.
